Hi,

For the project I am working on I need to use multi-conductor cable with a color sequence based on ICEA/NEMA Method 1 table E-2 (WITHOUT WHITE & GREEN WIRE) for control. I have to connect multiple solenoids. They have 3 connections points (2 for 120V and 1 for ground). Now my question is : What should I do with the ground connection ? If I am not mistaken, NEC code does not allow you to use another color than green but the requirements for this project are to use multi-conductors without any green wire...

EDIT : Forgot to mention that these cables are routed in RGS conduit.

Thanks,
Francis

BTW, this is my first post, I am french speaking Canadian and I have to work on multiple American projects. This forum and you guys saved my life more than often, THANK YOU !

Francis, can the conduit and cabinets it terminates be used for the ground? If not, can you run a green conductor separate from the multi-conductor cable for the ground?

I dont think the code allows a separate conductor to serve as the egc.

I do seem to recall some dispensation on reidentification when using a m/c cable.

see 200.6 (E) exception 1 for grounded conductors.

see 250.199 (B) for ground conductors.

These exceptions would allow you to remark a conductor in a m/c cable as white for the grounded conductor and green for the ground conductor.
