Instrument Earth bar application

I recently have started engineering new special vessel, FPSO. The spec says that dedicated insturment earth bar is arranged in each control room by bring cables from each panel to dedicated earth bar. This applies to protective earth as well. I have not applied to any other vessel design, container carriers. What is main purpose of dedicated earth bar ?
What is main advantage and disadvantage of it compared without earth bar ? My practice was to cable-shield locally in each cabinet.

Every FPSO I did equipment for was this way.
