insulation colors for #6 and smaller

Could someone please help me find the Article that says that conductors smaller than #6 need to have the proper color insulation, not just re-identified by tape or other means.

I am starting to go crazy trying to find it.My other option is that this was a local amendment I learned during a Code update.

The rule is not smaller than #6. It is #6 and smaller requiring the use of the correct color for #6.
 
The last inspector I dealt with let me use green tape on # 8. Saved a trip to the supply house.
 
Reidentifying a 6 AWG black as white or green is the most common violation of the NEC. Most inspectors have selective enforcement. We don't like this rule, but its where the NEC has drawn the line.

With all respect, submit a proposal and see what the CMP states. Its a great way to learn what the intent of the code is.
