Are Insulation Detectors (thermistors) required on down lights in an uninsulated ceiling. The lights are equipped with 500w quartz lamps and are controlled by a dimming system. The ceiling is about 35' above the floor and is located in a large church auditorium.

Re: Insulation Detectors

Yes, for most recessed incandescent fixtures.
410.65(C). Someone could always add insulation later.

Re: Insulation Detectors

500 watt quartz lights in a recessed fixture?!?!?

Who makes these?

I'm guessing you have to keep insulation and combustibles about 3 feet away from those!

Thanks Steve
Thanks Peter
The fixtures were made by Gotham, a division of Lightolier. The bulbs have a T4 base which is a small candelabra size.
