Insulation Types, (THHN, XLP, etc)

Can anyone direct me to a good reference on how to match various insulation materials to those listed in tables 310.13 and 400.4 of the NEC.

For example, neither of these tables lists PVC (Poly Vinyl Chloride), yet from what I am able to determine from various manufacturer's literature is that PVC is a thermoplastic. I realize that there are many "trade names" for insulation, and the NEC avoids most use of trade names. Therefore, what I am looking for are some good references on how to categorize some of the various trade name insulations to those listed in the NEC, such as thermoset, thermoplastic, etc.

The trade names listed will be printed on the conductors, If it's not,,,you can't simply apply say THHN ratings to any old thermoplastic wire. If it's not marked, mic it.

Cool list, but I don't see where it helps him identify what he has.

This is a link to the UL Wire Marking Guide, it explains all the wire identification marks and different types of wire. UL has a number of marking guides and I find all of them to be very usefull.
