Working on a garage with studio remodel. County wants a smoke/heat alarm downstairs to interconnect with the smoke alarm upstairs.

I know this has been covered a lot here but my question is can you get a new alarm to interconnect with an older one without a wire? Or would you buy two new ones that are meant to interconnect wirelessly?

thanks

Yes there are wireless units but you may to replace them all. I am surprised they can make you do that. Here we just need to add new alarms where required but they don't have to connect to existing ones.

If you look at it from the other direction, you're working on a structure with interconnected smoke alarms. You're adding one in this structure. It seems you would have to connect to existing.
Running a wire is ideal, but an approve wireless should be acceptable.

I'm not aware of any combo smoke/heat alarms available. Combo detectors are available for alarm systems. You could use 2 devices but you will need to interconnect with wire since wireless interconnected heat alarms are not available.

All devices connected together need to be the same manufacture.
