interconnecting smoke det. and CO detectors

I have to install and interconnect them they are 4 CO/sd combo and 12 sd's . I was reading at some of the brands at Home Depot and they say that I can interconnect up to 12 sd'd or up to 18 co or heat detectors ,in my case i have 16 sd's total , what can i do in this case ?

Good question? On Kidde's site I wfounds this.


The Kidde I12040 can be operated as a single station unit or it can be interconnected to up to 24 Kidde devices in a multiple station arrangement. The interconnect system should not exceed the NFPA interconnect limit of 12 smoke alarms and/or 18 initiation alarms. With 18 alarms interconnected, it is still possible to interconnect up to a total of 6 strobe and/or relay devices.
