While removing all the windows from an old house that's going to be demolished Wednesday I came across an interesting gadget.
This house had wainscoting applied over the walls in a couple of rooms. Not just any wainscoting, but solid oak, 1" thick! The duplex receptacles in these rooms had 1" thick duplex spacers - essentially a duplex receptacle with two 5-15R's in front and a duplex plug with two 5-15P's in the back. When plugged in to the actual receptacle the result looked like a standard duplex with a 1"+ thick bezel, so the area around the receptacle in the front of the box was open. The oak was cut out in a single box sized rectangle. Clearly not up to current code with all that area exposed to the wood.
Anyway - I hadn't seen one of these things before, so I was curious what vintage they are. Can't be TOO old, they are three prong.
