Siemens response on an inquiry about their PNW4040B1200, panel drawing attached. Any thoughts?
The 40 max on a 40 space / 40 circuit rule was true up until tandem AFCI was introduced. For PNW4040B1200, tandem breaker are listed under the branch breaker column -QTA & QTAN therefore that would be a supporting document. Since tandem breakers are listed for this load center, it supports there could be up to 80 circuits.
The panels were designed on the assumption that plug-on neutral breakers would be used so you don't need as many neutral positions. The extension kits are available if for whatever reason they are needed.

The PNW4040B1200C part number would normally indicates a maximum of 40 circuits but the label diagram (attached) indicates the use of ECNBX kits to go up to 80 circuits. Is it allowed to use Q1515AFCNCSA tandem afci breakers to exceed 40 circuits in a PNW4040B1200C panel with the installation of the ECNBX kit? Can you provide supporting documentation that this is allowed?
