Working on a project that has EV charging posts on a different level than that of the EV charging cabinets and electrical panel in an existing parking garage.
Based on NEC 625.42, 110.25, and 625.19, Does a local disconnect need installed within line of site from the EV charging post? Couple comments:
1. The MCB for the system is lockable in the open position
2. Signage would be provided on the EV charging post level indicating the location of the MCB
3. The charging posts are de-energized until a handshake occurs between the car and charging cable.
4. Is the issue serviceability, emergency, or both?
a. If it's serviceability, then I would think local disconnects at the EV charging posts would not be required (based on the fact the MCB is lockable in the open position).
b. If it's emergency, then the average person will not know how to shut off power regardless of where the disconnect is located.
