Anyone have any advice for keeping track of materials and tools on a large job, with many employees. All of whom are in need of things daily. right now I have two men designated for this single purpose but it still seems very hard to keep track. I have them keeping logs of materials that go out every day but there are always things that come back at the end of the day. Also we get deliveries everyday with things that are needed instantly. Anyone have any suggestions or systems that they are currently using.

look into barcoding and scanners. Similar to DHL/Fed Ex/UPS. You can scan parts in and out, for different guys/jobs/tasks.

If the job is large enough to pay 2 salaries, you should find it cost efficient.

we have anywhere between 35 to 50 guys depending where we are on this job and other ones but the plan is to get to about 70 in a few months

For tools we use the bar code systems that are available.

One is called "Tool Watch"

I am not sure I follow you about the stock.

99.9% of our stock is shipped direct from the supply house to the job.

Very little stops at the shop at all.

For us each foreman is responsible for the stock ordered for their job.

All stock orders require a PO which requires a job number to get the PO.

If we order 15 different parts for 15 different jobs there will be 15 different POs.
