Inverter on other side of a gate

Hi,

If I have a main panel separated from an inverter (maybe only 10 ft away from each other) by a gate, would I still need an AC disconnect, and therefore also a disconnect directory plaque? I'm not sure if the gate is locked or not.

I usually play that one safe and put in a disconnect. See the 'grouped' requirement in 690.15. Hard to argue that equipment on two sides of a gate is grouped.
