I stopped by a large landscaping supplier for an irrigation controller power cord. They only stock a #14/3 SPT-3 cord and it was labeled as a garbage disposal cord. #14 AWG seems overkill for supplying a 30VA transformer and there is no indication that it is rated for outdoor use. Will someone please suggest a cord best suited for this application?

I know some will say it must follow listing a labeling but I see no problem with using a cord listed for GD, Menard's has even a 16/3 6' or 8' that also Say's general purpose on the sleeve it comes in that would work just fine.

The controller I have also came without a cord as it is allowed to be hard wired or cord and plug connected, most of these cords (round black ones) are labeled SJOW which the W is for wet locations, as long as it is plugged into a GFCI with an in-use cover.

The instructions on mine do not specify any specific cord for use.
