Irrigation Pump

Hello,

I am installing an irrigation pump for a sprinkler system thats located on a lake. The pump will be sitting out of the water and probably twenty feet from the lake. My question is when installing wire for the GFCI does a person have to intall 14-2 or 14-3 if there is no place for the nuetral on the pump? It seems unnecessary to run a 14-3 if it isn't used. Also, does the 220 outlet need to be of the locking type? I guess I'm wondering if you have to treat it like a pool install. Thanks

Reminder 14-2 0r 14-3 NM cannot be installed in a wet location, If you are running a 220V pump at 12 amps or less then 14 guage wire is acceptable and you only need run the current carrying conductors. A staight blade is acceptable.
