The title says it all - is it the same thing? I picked up a package marked BX Connector, and in the listing, it mentions "Metal Clad Cable" and liste 12-2 and 12-3.

Thanks,

Brett

The packaging is a fair indicator.

Look up the manufacturer at someplace like http://www.electric-find.com/ and find the information they have for their product.

This isn't a NEC issue. The ball is in the manufacturer's court.

I've had some folks claim "you can't use BX connectors for MC Cable " - but they haven't said why. The "BX Connector" is a single screw, and when you tighten it, it runs down along the jacket of the cable. The other style of connector I've seen others use - not sure how best to describe it - but it just tightens the outer band that goes around the cable jacket.

Thanks

Brett

Isn't there a ribbon or clear wrapper on the MC cable that indicates "use MC connectors only ? If I remember correctly the term "BX" became a generic term for AC cable but, in fact, was a brand name. Way back when, AC cable only came with a steel jacket and the std. AC connector had the screw on the side to secure the cable. Nowadays most AC, as well as MC, is manufactured with an aluminum jacket and the screw will puncture through it. So, I believe any squeeze type connector listed for use with MC cable would be the proper connector to use.

I haven't seen the connectors you describe in a long time. The one screw connectors I see now either "wrap" the cable or else sort of tighten a plate or small clamp against the cable. Check exactly what the connectors you have are approved for from manufacturer.

Keep the manufacturer's packaging that includes the label showing approval as an MC connector for as long as that particular manufacturer's connectors are being used.

If you keep them in a bin, put the label there. . .take the nay sayer(s) to the label, or vice versa, and ask the nay sayer to show you why the manufacturer is not correct.

Remember, different manufacturer's connectors have different cable termination compatabilities and, hence, different labels.
