Is a junction box needed?

When running class 2 burglar alarm cables within walls of a single family dwelling, are j-boxes required when a splice is made?

Can an installer simply solder and tape a connection and poke it back in the wall cavity and not have this connection accessible?

314.29 Boxes and Conduit Bodies to Be Accessible.
Boxes and conduit bodies shall be installed so that the wiring contained in them can be rendered accessible without removing any part of the building or, in underground circuits, without excavating sidewalks, paving, earth, or other substance that is to be used to establish the finished grade.

Of course some say this would not apply but its not a good practice. A buried splice in a single family has been million times, but its not a good idea, and can be technically dangerous

No, J-boxes are not required with class 2 wiring methods.

Neither 300.15 nor 314.29 are reference by Article 725 for class 2 wiring methods.

It makes sense to have access to splices even with class 2 wiring, but it is not a code requirement.
