I have a contractor asking if this type of product can be installed over a tub. I have no product specifications other than he says it is powered by 120v and he can get it in tempered glass. I am assuming since it is an exterior window that it is designed for wet/damp locations. Anybody familiar with this or any code section it violates? I can't see where it involves 406.9(B) or 410.10(D) where most of my tub issues are resolved.

The NCDOI elec. division says "NO" unless they produce listing and labeling for installation in the tub enclosure. I am still interested in the forum input.

Ron Chilton has spoken. Like they said unless you can provide something in writing then it is no. That is the bad thing about new products.
I had a customers that had hand made wrought iron light fixtures made for their house. Inspector told them they couldn't hang them unless they were UL approved. They bought key-less fixtures for me to install. Don't know which handy man they used after final inspection to hang the others:roll:

Do they want it as exterior windows or as the shower enclosure?

It is a window over a soaker or massage tub....so you can enjoy the view while in the tub and opaque the view while you enter and exit the tub. It is on the exterior wall of the house. This has not been installed, house is in the design phase.

Does it install inside or outside? Is it cord and plug connected or hardwired?

410.10 D is not an issue if it is not a luminaire.

406.9 B - Grounding pole identification? Did you by chance mean 406.8 C?

If the view is that good there is nobody going to be looking in anyway - JMO maybe they want to watch traffic on a busy street while bathing.

Then I say it's as okay as any other bath or kitchen window. The manufacturer is the one to ask here.

I'd be a little concerned with the switch, if they can reach it while sitting in a tub.

You can be concerned all you want, but as long as the switch is not in the tub or shower space it is about the only thing in this thread that is not questionable. There is no code section stating switches must be a certain distance from a tub or shower.
