Hi,
I am confused little or lot here,

installing 400A, 3ph-commertial service
series rating with 10 feet away mounted new sub panel that are same manuf. as the 400A service. which is "Siemens"

I am choosing series rating instead of fully-rating
hoping to save some money.

note that; local Utility fault report indicates 42000A avail. short cir. value

here is my design;
The main breaker in 400A service: "JD6-A" @ 65000AIC (,
The 200A-3p Breakers in 400A service: "QJ2H" @ 42000AIC'
The 20A-1P breakers in sub panels: "QPH" OR "BQH" @ 42000A

QUESTION IS,
Can i use the sub breakers (QJ2H , QPH, BQH) @ 10,000 AIC ????????

My first guess is as long as you stay with all same manufacturer - they are probably going to be series rated, but one shouldn't assume they are either. Also consider feeder size and length, as you will have a reduced actual available fault current at the load end of feeders that could be low enough regardless of series ratings.

Last time we installed a series-rated panel, (GE) we got with the panel an approximate 40 page booklet with a zillion breaker part numbers with which to preserve the series-rating to additional or replacement breakers.

Maybe they should have sent a list of breakers that were not rated for your application - may have been a shorter list:cool:

None of these answer to my question
 
The answer to your question is in the chart I provided in Post #3.
(If I were inspecting the job the chart gives me the answer I need but I'm not going to second guess your AHJ. A call to your Siemens distributor should clarify)

If you wanted a serious and direct to the point answer you should have went directly to Siemens instead of a public input forum. My first reply was a little bit of what Gus mentioned in post 3 - "Keep in mind there are other contributing factors such as motor contribution so engineering input is often a prudent idea" We do not know all those details and I was just mentioning a few things that can be factors as far as engineering input goes.

The second response was just a little humor, sorry you didn't appreciate it.
