hello everyone!
I have a question if a switched receptacle is allowed in bathroom?
this receptacle would be on general light and receptacle circuit and of course gfci protected. i have a situation with a big bathroom and lutron homeworks light control system. in addition to my switched receptacle there will be a gfci receptacle installed not more than 3 feet from sink on individual 20 amp circuit and many wall switch controlled luminaries on general light circuit.
i can see that practice allowed in kitchens 210.52 (1) Ex. No.1 but nothing about bathrooms
thank you for having professionals on this forum

So the question is can a bathroom receptacle be on with a general lighting circuit when the require 20 amp circuit/receptacle is also installed? It would need to meet either 210.11(C)(3) or the exception.

210.11(C)(3) Bathroom Branch Circuits. In addition to the number
of branch circuits required by other parts of this section, at
least one 20-ampere branch circuit shall be provided to
supply bathroom receptacle outlet(s). Such circuits shall
have no other outlets.
Exception: Where the 20-ampere circuit supplies a single
bathroom, outlets for other equipment within the same
bathroom shall be permitted to be supplied in accordance
with 210.23(A)(1) and (A)(2).

210.70 A exception no. 1 say that receptacle controlling luminaries aren't aloud in bathrooms and kitchens. Also a lol food for thought when you use a receptacle to control luminaries it cannot be control by a dimmer! That is in the code article 404.14(e). So when ever you have a dimmer it cannot control cord and plug luminaries. At least that's how I interpret it. It makes sense if you were to plug in a vacuum to a dimmed recept it wouldn't and the right voltage to operate. :happyyes:

There are dimmer controlled (remote) duplex receptacles for lighting, but they use a special receptacle configuration such that a standard plug will not fit them.

Yeah I'm aware of this dimmable recept comfiguration I think I had a Lutron recept that I was gonna use on a job but it wasn't the problem with the recept the luminarie can't plug in the recept without changing the cord and plug and it lost its ul listing that way
