Hey, just thought I'd share a funny email I just received.

Pogo Moose Incident - Fairbanks , Alaska "

They were laying new power cables which were strung on the ground for miles.

The moose are rutting right now and very agitated. He was thrashing around and got his antlers stuck in the cables.

When the men (miles away) began pulling the lines up with their big equipment, the moose went up with them.

They noticed excess tension in the lines and went searching for the problem. He was still alive when they lowered him to the ground.

He was a huge 60 inch bull and slightly peeved!"

Good investigating Dennis. I just checked out Snopes.com for the first time, looks like a cool site, thanks.

*Just for the record, I didn't know the thing had been killed at the time I wrote it was funny*

Actually it's pretty sad. I know it was not intentional but this had to be a terrible suffering before his ultimate death.

As I recall from the original story the moose did not die from the hanging.

If I remember correctly, they put the moose down humanely so that it would not hurt itself or anyone when they tried to untangle it. I believe they even thought of tranquilizing it, but could not do so in a timely manner.

Or I could be completely mistaken.

I checked it out a few years ago and sveral times since. Very cool site.

Yes it happened. True enough to show up in the local papers. As already mentioned, it happened a few years ago. Yes they did the right thing killing it before anyone got hurt.

Moose get killed all the time. Trains get a lot. Trucks and cars get plenty. Wolves and bears get most of the rest. A few percent are harvested. As for a humane kill, anything they did to the moose was likely a lot easier on the moose than a bear would be.

Moose are not very bright. Shooting one is about like shooting a cow. They call it a harvest for a reason.

Just in case anyone was wondering - I'm a member of PETA (People for the Eating of Tasty Aminals):D

This one has been around for a while. There is another with a deer that got launched into the lines by a train....
