I have seen a couple different threads about journeymans exams , Mike Holts exam prep books and practice quizs. And I was under the impression that this was through the state or local authority? The EC that does the larger installs at the mach shop where Im employed, a couple yrs back went union (Im thinking to bid on some bigger jobs) All the employees had to test to see where they were at,a few had to start as apprentices, and afew entered as jrnymn. My question...is there a diff in the tests as in level of difficulty or in status. I am not looking for any pros or cons of union or non-union, just curious if theres diff ways to test. Thanx

My masters test was based on the NEC. A couple of years ago local 26 IBEW was maning up for a job and needed journeyman electricians and where testing to fill the slots, in order to test you needed to either have a masters, journeyman or have (needed to show) 10 years exp. Their test was based on the NEC and both where open book. Both test is a way of making sure you can apply the Code to the work. I hope this helps I've taken both and the level of difficulty was the same.
