Is there a practical use for a 30-amp, 1-pole breaker in a residence?

Unfortunately, the breaker was not indexed in the home so I do not have any idea what is services. Service is ca. the 1960's

Maybe a well pump, or, an incorrectly wired 30 amp 120v subpanel hidden somewhere. :)

Early electric stove? Incorrectly wired clothes dryer?
How about half-wiring an electric water heater?

I have a 120V, 20 gallon water heater that has a 2500 watt element. Its branch circuit is #10 on a 25A breaker, but there’s no reason it couldn’t have been put on a 30.

When I was a kid we had a 30 amp circuit that ran overhead to two outbuildings. Each one with their own single 15 amp circuit

If the circuit went to a garage, there's a chance it was for a welder that accepts a 120V input such as small inverter welders for MIG or TIG, etc..
