the utility is supplying 480/277.
the contractor has installed 3phase wires and neutral to disconnect. Then Underground using 3phase wires and a GEC, about 100' to a MLO panel
inside the building. The panel is listed 480/277.
Contractor says only 480 will be used for equipment. for lighting and receptacles a transformer will be installed inside building.
Q: is a neutral required from disconnect to panel
and not a GEC?

Re: Is This Code?

The neutral only has to make it to the service disconnect, after that you can leave it behind if you do not need it.

Did you mean EGC instead of GEC?

Re: Is This Code?

A grounded conductor (neutral) is not required but a grounding conductor is required in this situation. The grounding electrode conductor goes to the grounding electrode from the service equipment. :D

Re: Is This Code?

B.T.W that`s how we found a way to use a t pole`s 50 amp gfci and back feed a house and hot check it without the gfci tripping from a bonded neutral at the meter/panel.Works great. Not UL
listed but I am considering what it takes ?
