Went to look at a contactor that has been giving some problems at a service station on a Marine base. The contactor is the E-Stop for the fuel system panel. What struck me as odd, is the power for the panel left a bank of transformers on the pole, down in 2.5" rigid conduit, then under the road and up into this contactor enclosure. The power wires feed through the contactor and then to the panel.

Is this ok? Does the contactor have to be U.L. listed as service equipment?

Probly not on a Marine base. On Federal property, things can be done and have been done, like nowhere else.

That's true. I always get a kick out of the military being the AHJ.

I'd rather see a main breaker with a shunt trip.

I have an issue with shunt trips in that if you lose your control power for any reason you don't have an E-Stop and you don't know it until you need it.
