I got a question regarding kitchen island. The inspector worded as I must have an outlet installed in the island and gave 210.52(c)(2) as code reference but the code itself doesn’t say must, but if an outlet is not installed a provision shall be provided for future addition, which I do have a wire there if the customer wants to install one in the future.IMG_2925.jpeg

You are correct that in 2023 you can provide provisions for the future addition of a receptacle. However, your local amendments take away that option from you.

527 CMR 12.00: Massachusetts Electrical Code (amendments)

210.52(C)
II. Revise 210.52(C)(2) to read as follows: "At least one receptacle outlet shall be installed to
serve each island and peninsular countertop of work surface, and shall be located in accordance
with 210.52(C)(3). A receptacle in a wall countertop or work surface that directly faces a
peninsular countertop or work surface shall be permitted to serve as the receptacle for the
peninsular space."

Ha
The amendments.
But the inspector didn’t give me this reference when he emailed me nor at the time of inspection which got me all confused.
But thank you
