Isolated ground

Does an isolated ground really work? If so how do you isolate it. A new sound booth was put in and they are wanting the recepticals to have isolated grounds?
 
We installed an IG system for a Broadway theater according to this engineered drawing. Whether or not it actually did anything is open to debate.

If they spec and pay for it by all means do it. But if you want to minimize problems with real issues, megger all neutrals to verify there are no downstream neutral to ground shorts. This will do a lot more than all the extra copper they care to buy.

Most IG systems I have see installed have installation problems, connected to a separate isolated ground electrode, crossed up with the NEC required GEC, not isolated and the list of issues goes on and on.
