Issue with screwless plates?

I dont use them much these seem like some cheaper offbrand because they dont fit leviton devices right. The switches and plugs are sunk back behind the plate when the plug is flush against the wall. Not only that but they dont seem to snap in correctly leaving a gap in the last one popped ins corner. I think my issue is that they routered out too big of a hole for this first trim piece and the plastic is not rigid enough to be pushed back into itself (some if these boxes have just a tape joint next them with mud from where they cut so bad. So i dont know how to explain this. He keeps changing things up first they were gonna be screw in plates which is how u trimmed out for. Theres a certain acceptable margin of error for certain finishes. With screwless plates u have to have them all at the right depth with screw on u have a little bit of play with where the receptacle sticks out proud.

Was just wondering if yall had any tips for screwless plates and if maybe i should just tell him to take these back and get the right brand if that is even the issue. Maybe i should just buy one and try it out then show him.
