The amount of time and effort to pull this off boggles my mind.

A little more detail. The property just sold. It was carefully inspected. Before the wall was openned up, it looked and tested just fine.

Probably just a two-gang decora plate. They make TV-jack devices that fit perfect in a normal decora plate.

That's exactly right. White. High design.

There were more of these, all in one part of the house. Cat 5, plain old telephone, cable and power and light, all under nice looking designer plates.

Mass hysteria! :D
That's one of the most jury-rigged setups I've seen in a long time.
Where the heck is that EGC going all by itself??

Aside from the obvious violations, I'd be interested to know just how this "adjustable" box is going to adjust front to back with the conduits entering the bottom !!! I wish I could know the thought process this person used in installing this. Maybe, in their mind, they had a logical reason for doing this.

That, in fact, is the connection to the EGC for the receptacle. My guess is, the box was installed to get more depth for the cable and then the outlet needed a ground that, in the mind of the installer, wasn't there, so the bare #12 was run to another NM jbox just around the corner.

The piece of 12 NM goes downstream to a built in ironing board on the other side of the wall inside the master bath / laundry room.

The left GRC has the #14 circuit hot, wall sconce switch leg and neutral, that is about midway down stream in the bedroom circuit that covers a three bedroom and hallway area, roughly the back half of the house.

That really is the amazing thing, isn't it?

The holes cut in for the two GRCs were pretty accurate. Round, not oval, and snug to the pipe.

Ya know, that pic reminds me of a DIY who will pay over 1G to have a professional to install a theatre system for them, but turn around and try to save money and do everything short of burning down their own home.

All that effort just to keep from having to install a couple of locknuts and ground a 4 square box. What was he thinking???

Al,

Did you find this in the city, or was it in one of the more rustic counties nearby? I've seen some wacky stuff, but I don't recall ever seeing anything that weird in the city.
