The owners of an upcomming job rather not give "the electricians" a dedicated mechanical room.
The "electrical engineer" of this project is presently showing an 800 amp free standing rack service. We would then have underground feeders to the buildings (2 of them).
Code wise, would it be permissable to put the panels in the attic feed with Schedule 40 PVC, (considerinding that the requirements for clearances could be met) ? There will be a pull down stairway to the attic. Would this meet the requirement of "Readily Accessible" ?

Locally we do not consider equipment that is accessible by "pull down" stairs to be readily accessible.
Associated question I have would be as the the routing of the conduit.
Sch 40 exposed on outside would not be accepted as protected from physical damage and inside it would seem you would be in violation of 230.70.
Also, I know of no requirement that the gear be in a "mechanical room" as long as 110.26 is met.

I doubt you have such a local ammendment - but here we have a rull about hieght of entrance to accomadate the gear...

But sticking a 800a cabinet in an attic sounds like just a bad idea.... You might also want to check with the AHJ about access to this main disco.... And service conductors in the building....

So the EE wants the 800 amp service not in a dedicated room? If that's what they want why try and change it?
