I have just received a house plan that calls for "a 30 & a 50" amp receptacles [at 2 locations] in the garage for their motor homes. How are these calculated into the load for the home? Thanks.
I would invoke 220.14(A). If you knew that the mobile home would only draw 20 amps from the 30 amp receptacle, you might be able to use that number. But absent any other information about the mobile home(s) to be plugged in to those receptacles, I would use 3600 and 12000 (i.e., 30x120 and 50x240), presuming the voltages to be 120 and 240 respectively.
Thanks. Apparently, a mother & daughter will be at this residence. Each of them have their own (making it 2) motor homes. Is a 50 amp receptacle for an RV 120 or 240 volt?
