In your case, since it is also an environmental air space (or at least your description seems to imply that) you also have to worry about the smoke and fire rating of the cord.
(And it is usually better to give the thread a title which indicates the subject of the question, not your name.
PS: The general consensus is that the most code compliant way to handle this is to mount the receptacle so that its face is below the dropped ceiling or mounted in a some kind of enclosure that opens below the ceiling.
