journeyman exam

I took the practice journeyman exam that came with Mike Holts journeyman
comprehensive package and did real good on it. Is the real exam pretty close to Mike's
Exam. I'm going to be taking the texas journeyman exam and was just wondering if there is something else I need to study before I go take the real exam?

Dont know about Texas but The Michigan was easier than I expected. If you did ok on the Holt exam you should be fine. I remember alot of questions on Pools and grounding. Good luck.

Any and every exam is about picking out the key word or words in the question, and quickly being able to locate the answers in the code.

So don't worry so much about the actual contents of the exam or what the actual questions may cover, only worry about how to find the section the question is referring to - FAST.

If the practice exams you are taking are making you get more comfortable and familiar with your code, then they are working. And it really doesn't matter if your are learning anything.

True. I was forewarned to study the index in the NEC and it really did help a lot.

When you go to test, see if you can tke the kind of codebook that has three ring, or seven ring (allows for removal of pages). it helps to remove 310.16, 430.xxmotor charts, and whatever else pages you will be using repeatedly for looking up answers, and have them on top of your desk.

I have done a lot of Mike's courses, and he doesn't teach to any particular state, he teaches the code (and does a very good job of it!) so that a person should be able to pass anywhere.

There were many q's dealing with motor calcs and a few dwelling unit service calcs. Grounding, bonding, conduit fill and deration. If you did ok with the Holt exam you should be ok. I found it a great help during the code part to have my index noted highlighted with all the articles that I had to look up during my review tests. And also I had "shortcuts" to code articles that brought me right to it. In NH we are allowed to do this in our code books. We can have noted written as long there are no #'s or examples that aren't already in the ugly's, or nfpa book. Good luck!

Another good trick is to move your index from the back of the book, to in front of, or behind, the contents section. Saves from having to flip back and forth. Assuming that you have a code book in a a 3 or 7 ring binder.
