I have run a 10/3 metal clad armored cable from my main panel through the second floor and down into a first floor HVAC air chase.
For whatever reason, the house has a HVAC air chase, with a 14x30 air filter opening, that is large enough to go inside and stand up. It is 8 ft tall and over 3 ft wide, maybe 2 ft deep. It has no other purpose except to allow the HVAC filter grill to be near the floor level while the HVAC intake is near the ceiling inside the chase. It is wasted, dead space.
This new wire will feed a small subpanel for a couple of extra first floor circuits.
I will need to extend the 10/3 wire to the actual subpanel using a junction box either inside or outside of the HVAC chase.
It is OK to have the junction box inside the chase? If the box is mounted fairly low, it can be accessed from outside the chase via the HVAC filter opening, if that helps.
