What is the difference between a junction box and a pull box? I could not find any definitions in the NEC.

Wires go into and out of a pull box, without being terminated to connected to anything within the box. Not so with a junction box.

Junction box has connections in it, ex: screw terminals, wirenuts, etc.
Pull box is for access to pull cable, ex: 90 degree, Tee, etc.

Your right its poorly defined. Look at 314.28 in the NEC. Smaller than #4 wire its a rating issue. Hope this helps.

the cu in capacity of an enclosure is guided by 314.16 A ans B, if the conductors contained there in are #4 or larger the size of the enclosure is guided by 314.28. this section applies even in surface wireways (when used as pulls) even with cable Vs conductors pulled thru a raceway.

Charlie, your right . I overlooked the section that applies to smaller conductors. I just wanted to get him in the right area. Thanks P
