Hi Guys, I had 2 questions about junction boxes near fire sprinklers,

1.) If a junction box is next to a fire sprinkler is there any code requirement NEC or CEC (california job) requiring it to be Nema 3r or waterproof rated?

2.) Is there any code rules on junction boxes obstructing the spray pattern of the sprinkler? (more of a fire code issue, but thought I would ask)

1) No
2) There are rules for the obstruction of the spray from the sprinkler head, but don't know exactly what they are.

If the junction box is on the same wall as a sidewall sprinkler, it has to be mounted at least 6 inches away from the sprinkler. If the sprinkler is pendent mounted, the distance depends on the depth of the box. For a 2-1/8 inch deep box, it's 3 feet. For a 4 inch deep box, it's 5 feet. This is based on the distance from the deflector to the bottom of the obstruction. If the sprinkler deflector is mounted below the bottom of the obstruction, you can be as close as 12 inches. The spray pattern looks like an umbrella. You need to be far enough away from the top of the umbrella to not let the bottom of the obstruction clip the spray pattern.
