Junction Boxes

I need to relocate a 200 amp panel in a single family home. There are probably about twelve NM cables that will be too short to reach the new panel location. The carpenter doesn't want me to use the old panel as a splice box, but would like me to install a junction box above a suspended ceiling. I'm assuming to size the junction box I need to find the cubic inches of all of the NM cables and then find a box that can handle that amount (L x W x H). For the ground wires, can I just install a ground bar? Am I on the right path with this?

You can use one large box or several 4" or 4-11/16" boxes.

Yes, you can use a ground bar, or pigtails and wire-nuts.

Often times a short raceway nippled to your new panel will make a neat installation in these situations

I'm doing a similar installation now. I'm using an 8x8 screw cover box with two EMT nipples.
