Junior Estimator

My company promoted me to a junior estimator. We mostly bid on commercial jobs. I don't know much in the estimating field. What books or tapes do recommend?

What were you before?

You just got promoted to junior estimator from what position? Just wondering what "practical" experience you might have.

I think that a company would be better off sometimes having a estimator work in the field as a "helper" for a few months before turning them loose on estimating. This will help to understand things like non-productive time for deliveries, etc. Just something to think about if you don't have any field experience.
