With smart meters now in place I've been making a point to check the peak demand that's on them whenever I work at a residence.

It's surprising how low most all the demand numbers are.

Ive kept a rough record of the numbers and have found an average to be around 9KW.

I checked an all electric house with :
Baseboard heat
Range
Dryer
Water heater
Garage unit heater
(1) mini split

and found 17.7 kw as max recorded

Just found it interesting

Does that 17 kW peak include the coldest winter night of the year?

Conventional wisdom has it that an all-electric house "requires" 200-amp service, but 17 kW is almost within the limits of a 60-amp fusebox.

I dont think we get peak demand on residential meters around here.
That is interesting
