Just took the NJ exam yesterday

Hey everyone. I completed the NJ exam yesterday. Any one out there who was with me? If so, what did you think of the test. As for myself--I thought it would be alot harder than it was, but maybe that's not a good thing. The next 10 days are going to feel like a life-time. As for my study materials, I used Mikes' Master exam prep kit for about 3 months 4hrs a night, and studied the fire alarm and security on my own. The Business Law course I basically looked it all up at the test site.

Care to share with the rest of us what was on the test while it's still fresh in your mind?

Not as many calculations as you would think there should be. 1 service calculation. No range calcs. A good amoung of grounding, and bonding. Are there any specific areas that you want to know about?

That pretty much summed it up. Just wondering if the test contained many calculations since they tend to eat up valuable testing time.

Hi Segdog,

Basically I couldn't really study the book---it was very dry and somewhat confusing, so all I did was basically use the index atthe front of the book and the glossary at the end of the book to find the answers for the test. There was 2 1/2 hrs for the test and I finished it in about 2 hrs. Hope this is a helpful response to your post.
 
I took this exam on Monday too. I thought the electrical was pretty easy. In the dwelling unit demand feeder question it did have sort of a calculation question because if you didn't know that a 10kw range calculates as 8kw then you would have gotten the wrong answer. Also, you had to have known that a clothes dryer calculates as 5kw. No there weren't questions like, what's the demand factor on a service for (20) 16kw oven-ranges nor were the any questions concerning demand factors for 4 or more appliances fastened in place. I was well prepared and did well.

The fire alarms was a bit of pita for me. One question I could not find the answer to was: Given: 4 story warehouse where people will be working during the day, where will smoke detectors, or Fire Alarms (I do not remember which one it was), need to be located?

A) On every other level
B) On every level
C) On every level that has more than 10,000 square feet of work space
D) On every level less than 10,000 square feet of work space

The answers given were something like that and I chose B, on every level, because it just made sense to me.
 
Hey Ron, are you gonna call or wait? I feel good about it, Business and Alarm will be real good, The NEC I was nervous but did relax, so I am very anxious to know. Im not sure if I will call. I want the letter, we have waited sooo long so a few more weeks won't hurt.

No, I'm not going to call because both the testing agency and board of examiners specifically ask you not to call them for exam results. Remember, if we pass we're going to have to work with these people for a good 20 years, or more. No sense in bugging them because they will remember you. :mad:
 
Hey guys took my exam Mon 4/6. Not that bad could have been worse. That particular fire alarm question answer was every floor. Sorry i can't give you the exact spot in the book where it is, but i remeber clearly reading it. Hey by the way i did not no you could call to find out your results.

Well then common sense prevailed. :smile:

Dirt, you can do whatever you want. Apparently someone has already called Prometric and gotten their test results even though it specifically says not to call in the Prometric Exam Guide on page 5 enquiring about test "scores." I'm feeling more confident now that I did well than I did when I left the hotel.
