Had a failed inspection the other day. The two items were
1) No doorbell installed - (because homeowner has a wireless security system being installed by others)
and the one this thread is about
2) Laundry room lights are tied to the furniture of GFCI - (in actuality, the HVAC service receptacle is on a general lighting circuit, which is on a dual function breaker. Furnace room in finished 2nd floor of a 3 story house)
General contractor goon calls me and says he needs me to fix my mistake
I told him there's nothing in the code book prohibiting that type of installation, and he needs to tell that to the inspector. Because he never builds a code compliant home, he doesn't know how to counter an inspector. He just bends the knee and caters to their whims.
So I had to make a call to the permits and inspections department. I talked with the AHJ and told him I had an issue with the failed inspection item, and was requesting it be removed because it'scode compliant. Here was his response, verbatim:
"Can you give me a minute?"......(5 min wait)
"OK, I've talked with the powers that be and they disagree with you."..... (I start thinking omg this can't be real).....
"but we've looked into it and we don't have anything that allows us to enforce it. I'll remove it and tell the inspector it can't be enforced."
I was relieved that the whole phone call took less than 10 minutes, and they were objective. But that tells me they'll probably introduce an amendment.
