Always wondered why some keyless and pull chain type fixtures seem to have a removable collar and others do not . Is to allow the socket to be repaired?

The old way was a twist lock type 2.5 inch porcelain base. It could have a receptacle, bulb holder, or pendant. They had extension cords that would twist in too with this type.Interesting, I didn’t realize taking the collar off would be
