For a commercial kitchen I'm wondering would the follwing be condsidered kitchen equipment for demand factor purposes (220.20). To me, the definitions are pretty vague.

ice cream dipping cabinet
walk-in cooler/freezer

Re: KITCHEN EQUIPMENT

now that i think about it, im almost sure the ice cream dipping cabinet would be considered kitchen equipment. its the walk-in cooler/freezer im not so sure about.

Re: KITCHEN EQUIPMENT

but 220.20 goes on to say thermostatically controlled. im thinking as long as the freezer/cooler are serving the kitchen then it would apply to the demand factor.

Re: KITCHEN EQUIPMENT

I'll concede that the meaning of "kitchen equipment" in the context of 220.20 (2002 version) is not clear. But I'll stick with my earlier response. You may store something in the freezer, and you may take it out and bring it to the kitchen area, but that does not mean that the freezer "serves" the kitchen.

This might be an AHJ call.

Re: KITCHEN EQUIPMENT

I think this is a case where it might be better to be safe than sorry. I wish the code was a little more clear here.
