If a cord and plug connected microwave is mounted on the bottom of a cabinet, above countertop or range approximately 20”with the receptacle in the cabinet above and greater than 6 ft from a sink does it require gfci protection?????

Also very similar situation as above except vent hood above range cord a plug to cabinet above?????

My feeling from 210.8 is no but it just don’t feel correct

No, the receptacle inside the cabinet, and the height, would prohibit that.
Thanks I seen some notes to support your answer in the enhanced content of handbook but was warned that those comments are not code

Which edition of NEC applies? Not on 2023 yet but I recently happened to see that 2023 requires GFCI protection for microwave ovens in the 210.8(D). The way it is written it should apply to microwave ovens regardless of where they are located or whether cord connected or not. I have no idea what justification was to add this but not surprised either. Most of what is listed there used to be in art 422 but the list got moved into 210.8 with some changes. Ranges, ovens, cooktops are all in the list as well. Doesn't make any sense to me why any those should require GFCI protection.

I’m on 2017
But I did see what you are talking about in 2023.
Why don’t we just give in already and go to AFCI/GFCI everywhere
