Hi guys

Just a quick thought on some work of late... I'm remodeling lounges in a five story dorm and have run into a question. As part of the automation and controls, I'm mounting a .05KVA control transformer ( 120 VAC Pri 24VAC Sec) to operate a time delay relay. My question is does ART.450 require me to ground the X2 24VAC secondary of the transformer ?? (Bond X2 to ground).

Thanks guys, any help is sure appreciated

Steve

A secondary of any transformer per 250.20 is required to have a GEC, GES and and a system bonding jumper.
A transformer 1 KVA and smaller is exempt from the GES requirement, but a system bonding jumper is required, sized not smaller than 14 AWG.
But a 24 Volt secondary is not typically (see exceptions) to be grounded. SDS in 250.30 refer to 250.20 for what systems have to be grounded. Yours does not.
You should determine what type of circuit this is, it may not be what you would call "low voltage" and require a chapter 3 wiring method. See Art 725 Part I, II and III
