Hi all,

E3703.2 from the 2009 Virginia IRC states

Kitchen and dining area receptacles.
A minimum of two 20-ampere-rated branch circuits shall be provided to
serve all wall and floor receptacle outlets located in the kitchen,
pantry, breakfast area, dining area or similar area of a dwelling.
The kitchen countertop receptacles shall be served by a mini-
mum of two 20-ampere-rated branch circuits, either or both of
which shall also be permitted to supply other receptacle outlets
in the same kitchen, pantry, breakfast and dining area including
receptacle outlets for refrigeration appliances.

The dining room is not adjacent to the kitchen, therefore is not convenient to run a circuit from the kitchen.

I believe the following to be true:

I can use a dedicated circuit just for the breakfast area and the dining room combined
I can use (2) dedicated 20A GFI circuits for the countertop and then add a non-GFI circuit for the wall receptacles in the kitchen.

Does the:

Dedicated circuit for the breakfast area and dining room need to be a 20A circuit or can it be a 15A?
Dedicated circuit for the breakfast area and dining room need to be segregated (could it be used also for the family room or an adjacent bedroom)

Can I use the third non-GFI circuit in the kitchen to supply the breakfast area/pantry/dining room?
Can I use the third non-GFI circuit in the kitchen to supply an adjacent family room or bedroom?

Sorry we are not allowed to help even the moderators who are engineers with diy questions. Hope you understand
