IN NEW JERSEY, WHERE IM FROM, KLIEN HAS THEIR GUARANTEE ON EXCHANGING DEFECTIVE TOOLS. THE MAGNETS ON MY TAPE MEASURE FELL OFF (REALLY) AND THEY WOULDNT GIVE ME A NEW ONE, AT THREE DIFFERENT SUPPLY HOUSES! THEY SAY THAT PEOPLE ARE ABUSING THE PRIV. I THINK THEY ARE GETTING CHEAP ON US. IS IT GETTING LIKE THIS ANYWHERE ELSE?

Re: KLIEN TOOLS

I use klein auger bits, I think they are superior to the greeenlee bits. I have no problem with returns. I don't know if its klein or the supply house trying to keep the contractor happy.

Re: KLIEN TOOLS

In our area getting warranty on Klien tools has been next to impossible, since I started in the trade 33 years ago. The supply houses want the defective tool, so the Klien rep can determine if you abused the tool and you have to buy a new one.
Not worth thhe effort.

Re: KLIEN TOOLS

I've run into this with their screwdrivers. (i.e phillips head). I've been told that Klien will not replace the tool if it has "lived is normal life" (i.e worn out)

However, I purchased one of their 10-in-1 screwdrivers and kept loosing the tips. I sent an e-mail to Klien complaining that they keep falling out of the sockets and they sent me 2 new tips - no charge. Try contacting them on line - you may get further than you do at the supply house.

Klein Tools Literature Page

Klein Tools Warranty & Abused Tools Policy

This informational supplement was designed to familiarize you with Klein Tools' guidelines as to what is considered unacceptable in regard to returned goods. Klein Tools' warranty, (found on the last page of this guide), states that Klein Tools' products shall be "free from defects in materials and workmanship for the normal life of the product?" Klein Tools has no obligation to replace tools which have been damaged from excessive wear, misuse, abuse or alteration of the product. The photos and descriptions of abused, misused and worn-out tools found in this guide are included to give you specific examples of what WILL NOT be accepted by Klein Tools or our distributors for repair or replacement. Keep this guide as a point of reference. Remember, never use tools for purposes other than what they were designed and intended for.

Klein's warranty covers tools for the "normal life" of the tool, not that of the tool's owner.*

Wear and tear on the tool is only natural. This normal wear doesn't make the tool "defective". Additionally, extreme wear and tear, improper care, misuse and abuse are all factors which will shorten a product's "normal life".

The "Proper Use and Care of Hand Tools, Pliers, Screwdrivers, Wrenches, Striking and Struck Tools" prepared by Klein Tools in conjunction with the Hand Tools Institute, along with Klein Tools' catalog, should be used as a point of reference for the proper use and care of tools manufactured by Klein Tools.

In addition to the examples found throughout this supplement, our formal warranty can be found on the last page of this guide. If you have further questions in regard to abused or broken tools, please contact your Klein representative.

*The exception to this warranty is Model 63060 Ratcheting Cable Cutter which is warranted for 90 days from the date of purchase.

**The following are never covered under warranty since these are considered perishable products: Triple-Tap Blades, Drill Bits, Klein Unibits, Compass Saw Blades, Hacksaw Blades and Holesaws.

Re: KLIEN TOOLS

klien is definitely on the deklien. i have been in the trade for over thirty years and klien has been my tool of choice. the only klien in my pouch now, is the linemens. sockets and drive are not what they use to be. i have heard klien farmed out part of thier tool offerings. i have talked with lineman who are also phasing out.

We have no problem in our area with Klein, but we have a really good area rep. Also we have a lot of competition from Ideal, Greenlee, etc so the reps work to keep business.

Re: KLIEN TOOLS

I've been out of the trade for a couple of years now, so I haven't had to deal with it. When I was in the trade, however; I found that there were two supply houses I went to that would warranty any Klein tool. Even if it was blown up!!! Their philosophy was that it was good customer service for the electricians that spent a lot of money there. I'm sure they ate it on most of their returns, but it was things like that that kept me shopping there.

Re: KLIEN TOOLS

I only have a few select specialty manufacturers(as I like to call them)tools.95 % of my tools are Craftsman due to the warranty.I have never been questioned about why I need the exchange.I can also exchange them on a weekend if needed, not just during the business hours of the supply house. To me that is a big plus. :D

Re: KLIEN TOOLS

I use Snap-on screw drivers and would never use a klien again. You might think that a scew driver is a screw driver but it's not. The bad part about it is, you have to find the snap-on truck. Every now and again I will see one and exchange my screw drivers with no problem.

That's why most of the time I say: Screw klein, and go straight to craftsman, that i know they will replace no matter what.

Re: KLIEN TOOLS

I am no fan of Klein; I will agree that they sometimes seem to be somewhat staid and hostile to the customer. I'm delighted that they now market a bottle opener- forty years after the advent of the pull-tab/pop-top can and the twist-off bottle cap!
I will also note that Klein has a lot of company in the "bad customer relations" area.

That said: I do, in fact, own several tools made by Klein. In many cases, their tools either work better, or are more appropriate, now that I am doing electrical work (as opposed to doing some electric work in the course of other duties).

Remember: even a stopped watch is right twice a day. Even a grumpy dinosaur of an old company can do some things right.

Re: KLIEN TOOLS

Klein scredrivers seem to wear out pretty quickly, and even the pliers don't seem that great. Some of the pliers are extrmemely tight and don't "break in" even after repeated oiling.
