All of the drives we have installed we have a fusible disconnect switch that feeds them .We have received a new Hitachi type drive .The Hitachi L700 calls for a ELCB or you run the risk of fire . Is there any reason we shouldn't install this drive the way we have done with a fusible disconnect ?

The L700 is the same as the SJ700B, except the L700 is designed only for installation in Japan and Korea only, so it undoubtedly has something to do with installation regulations in Japan or Korea. The first clue should have been the use of the term "Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker", which is not a term used here in the US for anything. Your OEM or buyer should have ordered the SJ700B version, there may be other more important issues than this.
