I would like to get some recommendations for label makers for panel work. Make and model would be helpful.

I would say [from experience, as I own the labeler] that the Dymo Rhino Pro 5000 is great. I looked on their site, and they want $150 for it. I have seen it on ebay [where I got mine] for MUCH cheaper. I also saw that they now have the 6000 model that you can hook to your computer... I may *need* that in the near future :D

The rhino labels come in the standard label, flexible label [good for cable and such], and the shrink tube label. Dymo.com

I second the RhinoPro 5000.

1/4" heatshrink is great for tagging conductors (Automation/PLCs, etc)
1/2" heatshrink is great for CAT5 whips and such.
Pretty much all my accessable panels are done with Permanent Polyester, and none of them have worn off or faded yet. There's also a handy patch panel/terminal block feature that does all the spacing for you.

Hint: you can save money on general-purpose labelling by buying Dymo D1 cartridges from an office-supply co. I use #45010 and #45013 (Clear, White) for basic labelling duties. They cost nearly half as much as the RhinoPro cartridges, and you get twice as many feet of tape.

The RP 3000 is essentially the same as the 5000 except it can't print the widest size. (3/4") The T&B EZL-100 is an RP 3000 in disguise, and you pay more for that spiffy blue plastic. I bought my RP 5000 from my security wholesaler (ADI) which was a way better deal than a T&B at my electrical wholesaler ($150 vs $350)

I'll give you a good deal on my RP 5000 when I buy the 6000 :D

I'll third the Rhinopro 5000. It's nice to have the flexible wraparound labels and heatshrink labels in one machine. The only issue I've had with it is not being able to get the consumables locally. On one occasion where we used it a lot more than expected I bought a Brady IDPal unit from my supplier because they stock the tape for it. The Brady is a little bit cheaper but it can't print heatshrink.

I also own a Brady Handimark labeler that's designed for general industrial use and marking pipes. It takes 1/2", 1", and 2" tape that sticks to anything, much better than any other labeler I've used. It's an $800 unit but I found one for $200 or something on ebay.
