Here's a link to a $99 thermal printer. Be careful with the web page, without turning on my popup blocker it loads and loads and loads.
Brady themal printer

As far as my experience, Panduit and Brady are in the cable label business. I know 3M makes them, but have no personal experience there. What's interesting about this printer is that it looks good enough to take with for both wire labels and (no slight to local engravers) panel labels. Investing in this means spending time deciding what label products to buy and so forth, a package of labels now a larger investment than a portable thermal printer. Anyone's thoughts on going this way? Waste of time? Wires only? Sound like a plan?

PS I found this by visiting a known good supplier's website.

I have not used this printer, but I have the Brady IdExpert printer. I think it is the next step up on their printer line.

I had a problem with the printer cutter and it snaped off.
I called Brady and sent it back for repair.
They sent me back the wrong printer and it was damaged.
They tracked down my printer and then sent it back to me.

The customer service was good over all and they did follow up to make sure I was happy since they messed up.

I think the printers are good for wire lables and panel lables.
The cartridges are a little pricy though.

Can't tell you how many Brady ID Pal's I've gone through and I am not a heavy user. I have to keep two on hand just to be sure one will work when I need it.

$99? Certainly better. Now maybe if I can get a couple of years out of it...

These printers are a supply house marketing piece of rip off. They look impressive with there case and everything. Even slots to hold the expensive printing ribbons. I bought one at the 139.00 price. While it worked it prints good. But let a little time go buy or let it set for a few months and the mechanism freezes up. Because of the price I called Brady to have it repaired figuring this was the type of quality product that is repairable. And now let me give you a quote from the factory. " Oh, those are just throw away printers. We don't fix em. " So why in the he** didn't I just get a cheaper one at WalMart for 20.00! And where they make the real money is the over priced printing ribbons.

The problem with the ID Pals is, the contact wires get bent when changing the cartridge and then don't make contact. If you take your pocketknife and bend the wires out CAREFULLY, it will come back to life. I have three of them and they have been working pretty well for 2 years.

Panduit does make a better model, but more expensive.

Thank you, all. My knowledge is from several years ago, using the self adhesive sheets for labeling in production. Then, the thermal printers were all high end stuff (the investment would never pay off). It would be 'quite convenient' and 'good practice' to have the right setup for this, and every input is appreciated.
