Labor Day, an annual celebration of workers and their achievements?.In the late 1800s, at the height of the Industrial Revolution in the United States, the average American worked 12-hour days and seven-day weeks in order to eke out a basic living?..children as young as 5 or 6 toiled in mills, factories and mines across the country, earning a fraction of their adult counterparts? wages. People of all ages, particularly the very poor and recent immigrants, often faced extremely unsafe working conditions, with insufficient access to fresh air, sanitary facilities and breaks?.

People today still work under the same conditions.

Only they're called business owners now.;)
And... 'Independent Contractors' - who also in a sense 'own thier own business' selling thier time and labor off to others.... Since it costs too much to 'employ' people these days.

Sad and mostly true on this labor day

Sad and mostly true on this labor day

Our fathers had it worse than we do, their fathers had it much worse. We do have alot to be greatful for and hope that we'll all see better times.

The one thing that hasn't changed is that it's very difficult for our livelyhoods to be "outsourced", but with that we need clients and customers whom their livelyhoods are being and were outsourced.

Hopefully America will wake up to that fact.

Looks like the era of strong labor may be over. They did give us the weekend, a good thing cause now a lot of people need it for their second job. What we need now is a day of Greed. Then the people who don't produce but wind up all the money can have a day to gloat.

Things haven't really changed, they're just different. My dad tells how his first house payment was $75 a month and he wondered how he was going to be able to afford that. My house payment is just shy of $5000.

The only difference I see is that people were willing to work back then, now everyone is looking for that get rich quick scheme and kids have no clue what hard work is.
